Claire and Gil: I've modified the design. It turns out that there are something called the rules of tincture, which mandate that you can't place color on color, or metal (gold or silver) on metal. That's why the brown blends into the gules on the first design. So, I've restored the brown as a chevron.

Michael, you have clearly touched a sensitive chord here! I think people like the crest idea and the assorted spin-offs it can inspire.

While agreeing that the rosy party per fess can become more exciting (and the Brown more visible onscreen - melts into Crimson for me) I am most impressed by your symbolic composition.

And let me be the first to congratulate you on the very appropriate and meaningful motto.

Well done. A necktie sounds good to me. My two old Adams House ties are showing their ages. I picked up the first one in 1954 and it's a tad wide for these days.

Congratulations on a very nice job. The roses as presently drawn remind me of rose windows, perhaps not altogether unbecoming the Foundation's decorative memorial to the memory of FDR at Harvard. I'm looking forward to getting a blazer patch or at least a necktie.

I think you are on the right track with the crest you've designed. But the rose portion is a little sterile. You might make the rose portion of the shield a little bigger which would allow you to show stems and leaves with the roses arranged in the way they were arranged on the original Roosevelt Shield.

Michael,

I think I actually have that book (in tattered form), which I wrapped in bubble wrap during my many moves. Maybe now I will open it and bring it over when I see you, or when you come over.

While it won't be original, I wonder if F.D.R's line-a-day diary can be reproduced and a copy placed in the room. Nothing ventured nothing gained!

Wow, that wallpaper is beautiful, goes really well with the woodwork and fireplace, and takes us to yet another level. Thanks, Michael.
