Dear Michael,
The film about "Six Buildings" is magnificent. Your narration is just right and extremely interesting, the photos are excellent, and the music adds greatly to the total effect of the film. Dr. Palfrey's voice is excellent too!
You're going to make us all homesick for Harvard! What you've done with this film is more effective than any letter that John and I have ever received soliciting funds. Thank you and the Alumni Association and all the donors so much for making this film!
With best wishes from John and me,
                                                                                               Jane

Doug,

John is an excellent suggestion, and I'll pass it along; we've been in touch already as he's given us permission to reprint his FDR piece on our site. As for compliments, well let's just say I follow my father's oft-quoted comment, that a good compliment is better than a juicy ripe tomato on a hot summer's day... And I do LOVE tomatoes. :)

Michael -

As always a pleasure to read your reports, derived from a combination of your entrepreneurial spirit, your good taste, and your excellent style.

But enough of idle compliments which I know are of no interest to you. What I really want to say is that one potential speaker who may, or may not, interest you is John Bethel, former Editor of the Harvard Alumni Bulletin and a serious historian of FDR. I believe he may have even written a biography. I think you may have already had contacts with John.

Take care,

Doug

A good story.
Another good one could be how and why Lathrop Brown built a home of salvaged tin atop the mountain behind the Waterfall House - and how did he get the U.S. Dept of the Interior to build a road to it.
And, what happened to all the cultural riches Helen Brown left to the State of California.

I am involved in a community effort in Big Sur California to create a cultural center and attempting to recover artifacts Helen Brown left to the State of California. Any insight that could help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, there is a local lore that Lathrop built a house of tin 2,000 feet above thier Waterfall House at Saddle Back Ranch for FDR to write his memoirs. Might there be anything in your lettlers illuminating us about the purpose of the tin house?

A story about the Waterfall Trail
About the Waterfall Trail and history of Julia Pfeiffer Burns and the Browns who lived here Coast&Ocean story.

What books did FDR read in 1904 under Fredrick Jackson Turner? You know he was taking a course by him called the Development of the West.

Looking for a picture of the Waterfall House that Lathrop and Helen Brown owned in Big Sur, California, and cannot find one anywhere. Do you know of any pictures of this home before it was demolished in 1964 per Helen's wishes? Thanks, in advance, for any information.
